Breakouts From Long Term Mask Wearing.

With the majority of the public cooperating with the CDC guild lines of wearing a mask in public (thank you for caring),  I see a trend developing.   Breakouts around the nasolabial folds (your "smile lines" or "laugh lines"), and chin area.

If you’re the oily skin type, you may have experienced more active hot pimples than usual.   What do I mean by hot?  They may be red, raised bumps, they may or may not have pus in them, and perhaps they’re little sore.   If you have normal or combination skin, they could be small groupings of tiny congested bumps.  The area appears rough or rash looking.

The question is, what can be done about it?  Here are several steps you can take.  You don’t have to do them all, you simply need to find the best method that works for your skin.

1. Keep your mask clean. If your mask is washable, wash it often.  Do not reuse a mask if the mask is soiled with makeup or surface debris.

2.  Add a separate “oil control cleanser” to your daily routine.  Use that cleanser only on the breakout area.

3. If you must wear a mask for long periods of time, use a gentle toner to wipe the breakout area throughout the day to help control sebum (oil) build-up within your pores.

4. Exfoliate the breakout area more often.  Not the entire face.   Continue following your normal exfoliating routine.  You’re simply giving the breakout area an extra day or two of exfoliation.  If the area starts flaking, exfoliate less.  It’s a bit tricky, but you’ll find a happy median.

5. If your pimples are hot and angry, use a mask with salicylic acid as a key ingredient and spot the pimple.  What is spotting?   On clean skin, using a toothpick, place a tiny amount of the mask directly in the center of the pimple, not on the surrounding skin.  Leave it there until it dries, it usually takes about 10 minutes or so.  When it dries, rinse it off then continue your normal skin care routine.

You can also spot using an oil control serum.  But, be very careful with the serum, because if you placed it onto normal skin, that part of the face could become too dry and your skin will not be a happy camper.  It will produce even more oil to keep itself hydrated.

6. If your pimples are hot, angry and painful, a Skin Classic treatment for acne can relieve the pressure of the sebum buildup under the skin and help to accelerate the healing process.  The treatment also averts a “sebum eruption” from the infected pore produced when you squeeze the pimple, thus avoiding a future scar.   A treatment will accelerate the healing process of an active pimple to a matter of days instead of weeks.  The Skin Classic treatment for acne and milia is a great procedure to relieve discomfort from acne inflammation, mila and congested pores.  Blue LED light therapy included with acne treatment.
